Silicon Enhances Resistance to Red Crown Rot Caused by Calonectria ilicicola in Soybean

چکیده

Silicon (Si) application is known to enhance plant resistance diverse pathogens. Therefore, a greenhouse study was conducted determine whether Si reduces red crown rot (RCR) of soybean caused by the soil-borne fungal pathogen Calonectria ilicicola. The cultivar Enrei grown in soil mixed with different concentrations sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and inoculated C. ilicicola (1% w/v). significantly reduced RCR severity relative growth roots, as per qPCR, at both sampling time points. Notably, shoot content correlated roots. In addition, accumulation malondialdehyde, indicating that maintenance cellular membrane integrity an important mechanism underlying Si-mediated protection plants from RCR. Furthermore, Si-treated exhibited improved water nitrogen uptake root growth. Aboveground biomass seed yield harvest increased increasing concentration (0.0–3.0 g Na2SiO3 kg−1 soil). However, further increase (6.0 soil) yield. treatment can be used effective strategy control soybean.

Root Interactions in a Maize/Soybean Intercropping System Control Soybean Soil-Borne Disease, Red Crown Rot

BACKGROUND Within-field multiple crop species intercropping is well documented and used for disease control, but the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. As roots are the primary organ for perceiving signals in the soil from neighboring plants, root behavior may play an important role in soil-borne disease control. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS In two years of field experiments, maize/soybean interc...

Resistance of Strawberry Cultivars to Crown Rot Caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Isolates from Florida Is Nonspecific

Colletotrichum crown rot of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duchesne) can be caused by any of three fungi, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (teleomorph Glomerella cingulata), C. fragariae, or C. acutatum (17,27). The closely related species C. fragariae and C. gloeosporioides produce a reddish-brown necrosis of crown tissue following infection that causes plants to wilt and collapse (27). Under g...

Calonectria spp. causing leaf spot, crown and root rot of ornamental plants in Tunisia

Calonectria spp. are important pathogens of ornamental plants in nurseries, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. They are commonly associated with a wide range of disease symptoms of roots, leaves and shoots. During a recent survey in Tunisia, a number of Calonectria spp. were isolated from tissues of ornamental plants showing symptoms of leaf spot, crown and root rot. The aim of this study w...

The enigma of Calonectria species occurring on leaves of Ilex aquifolium in Europe

Species of Calonectria are common saprobes and plant pathogens on a wide range of hosts occurring in subtropical to tropical regions of the world. The aim of the present study was to resolve the status of new Calonectria collections obtained on Ilex leaves from France. Based on DNA sequence data of their β-tubulin and histone gene regions, as well as morphology, the new collections matched the ...

Heterologous Expression of the Secale cereal Thaumatin-Like Protein in Transgenic Canola Plants Enhances Resistance to Stem Rot Disease

Canola (Brassica napus L.) is an important oilseed crop. A serious problem in cultivation of this crop andyield loss, are due to fungal disease stem rot caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The pathogenesis-related(PR) proteins have the potential for enhancing resistance against fungal pathogen. Thaumatin-like proteins(TLPs) have been shown to have antifungal activity on variou...
